THE PROCESS CONTROL SYSTEM INFRASTRUCTURE ONLINE MONITORING
Control system is composed of a very large number of devices: Workstations, Servers, PLC, Network devices etc. System and special software operates for control system: OS, Database, SCADA, DCS, Network Monitoring, PCs monitoring and others tools. Some control systems run Linux, some run Windows and different software for process control - DCS/SCADA, but all of them (Software and Hardware) need to be remotely controlled and monitored to make sure they are correctly running.
Due to the large number of the control system components is need to reliably and efficiently operate it. At this view, it is fairly unreliable to monitor and maintain the needed operation parameters without the help of a Centralized Tool that provides a global overview of the current control system infrastructure status.
The Centralized Tool must be! (I think) based on a layered approach for monitoring different sets of parameters of the CS infrastructure:
- Hardware Layer: PCs, Network switches, UPS and also PLC
- Operating system Layer
- Databases Layer
- DCS/SCADA Layer
- Application Layer
For example you would like to know - CPU usage, Memory usage, HDD space, power status, fan status, temperatures, Application services, Network collisions, PLC statistics and CS system alarms or some application or OS service "health status" etc and as a result immediately receive an email/sms and of course see status overview on the single dashboard under Centralized Tool.
The Centralized Tool for the process control system infrastructure online monitoring, which runs in only one Node and use Web GUI for configuring and monitoring.
